My Gardening Exploits

On the left is a rhubarb plant I planted last fall. Recently I had some extra compost and I poured some around the base. A week later I went out to look at the plant and it's growth had exploded. So it will be just in time for me to make strawberry rhubarb pie in June when the strawberries ripen.
The picture below is my transplanted hubbard squash and beans and cucumbers. Those are all warm soil veggies so they can't be planted until after Mother's Day. Right now they get set outside on sunny days and brought in at night. This process in called "hardening off" so the plants get used to oustide weather.
This weekend is the Master Gardener's yearly Plant sale where I buy all my tomato plants, so I am excited to finally plant tomatoes.
My peas are now climbing up the trellis and the spinach, turnips, radishes, lettuce, swiss chard, green onions, cabbage broccoli and cauliflower are all doing well. They are cold weather vegetables and can be started in the ground in April because they thrive on cool nights and cool soil.
